Strategy Development
Strategy development is another area I have spent a lot of time working on with different clients in various industries. I have helped create strategies on my own, with the head of departments or businesses, and I have also created workshops to bring employees together to develop strategic objectives and strategy roadmaps in order to deliver an overarching goal.
In my experience, when deciding on a strategic direction for a business, it is sometimes useful to develop more than one option. This then highlights how then different strategies would result in different objectives, operations, structures, support and more.
Often, changes in strategy result in changes to organization structures, processes, suppliers, supply chain, raw material, technology and other resources. Some of my strategy work has also included making these recommendations. A few of my strategy projects have also included the implementation of my recommendations.
Organizational Design
Designing organization structures in line with changing strategies, environments, customer expectations and a myriad of other reasons is an area I’ve spent a lot of time in. I’ve worked on redesigning the organization structure of marketing teams, sales teams, entire businesses, customer support areas, and more.
The organizational design work I have done usually also includes redefining existing processes and designing new ones, articulating team accountabilities, defining roles and writing job descriptions – not just designing the organization structure.
Change & Transformation Implementation
Most of my management consulting projects include a change management element. This is particularly important for projects which include changes in organization structures and processes. I develop my change management programs around communication, leadership engagement, employee engagement and support, and training. Change management programs developed in this manner ensure employee commitment, which is a necessity for the successful implementation of changes.
Operational Efficiency and Effectiveness and Process Improvement
To create operational efficiency and effectiveness, I utilize the lean six sigma framework and workshop methodology. In past projects, these have, more often than not, achieved more than the initial objectives, providing reduced cycle times and reduced rework of up to 70-95% efficiency gains.
Additionally, process improvement projects often involve more than just a reduction in process time. For example, you might be interested in providing clarity to multiple departments or teams involved in cross-functional processes, or providing enhanced service to customers.
